Borobudur and Prambanan Temples of Yogyakarta

We would be back to getting up early today as we would try and catch the sunrise at Borobudur. Borobudur is the world's largest Buddhist temple and in a strange way dedicated to the number 9 for some reason. The cloud cover would deny us a sunrise this morning.

There are 9 stacked platforms, 6 square and 3 circular.

They also have 72 Stupas and when you add 7 + 2 you get 9.

And inside each Stupa is a Buddha.

In fact there are a total of 504 Buddha statues. Again if you do the math 5 + 0 + 4 adds up to 9.

And many of them have lost their heads.

We continued to wait for the sunrise.

As I walked around I came across these fellas who were involved in one of the most complex games of cat's cradled I have ever seen.

After our failed sunrise we headed down to the lower levels to walk around and hear the story of Buddha as told by the temple.

His entire life story has been carved in to the temple.

Afterwards we headed back to the resort for an unbelievable breakfast buffet.

After breakfast we headed to the second largest Hindu temple, Prambanan.

Each one of these have an inner temple.

And inside each one is a different god.

And when the god was missing I had a stand in to give you the same effect.

The temples even had an advanced gutter system. If it was raining you would see water shooting out of this hole.

The day was hot and we had a flight to catch for the third day in a row.

We had a short flight to Denpasar, or what most people know as Bali. We would be staying at the Sankara Resort for the next three nights and it would be great to be able to stay in one place for a while. The resort was beautiful and it too radiated a vibe of pure peace and serenity.

Complete with incense throughout the resort.

They had a nice infinity edge public pool but it was a bit far from our villa.

Our front door and entry way. The thing on the right side of the door is our doorbell.

One of our two beds.

A nice open air shower.

And at the other end of the bathroom was an insane natural organic bath tub that opened to our private backyard.

The rest of our room was outside, including a kitchen.

Along with a nice dining and lounging area.

All within a few steps of our private pool. No need to share with the general public in the hotel part of the resort.

We all agreed that we should just live here instead. We had a full day exploring Bali tomorrow so after some food and a beer to two we called it a night testing out our new potential home.
